I had not used a formative assessment before on purpose. I think that I have done them in the past, but not to the same intensity level or geared specifically for their learning improvement. I think I just asked without really knowing what the purpose was. I really think the idea of students having a grasp on what they really need to learn to master a skill is essential. THe process I used for formative assessment is as follows:
- Completed the Pre-Test and allowed the students to look at their results.
- Students were able to reflect on what they missed and had the opportunity to talk about what they needed help on.
- Each student had the opportunity to have a one on one with me to discuss any problems that occurred in the process.
- Students were given the Post-Test to see if the lessons we completed were effective in helping the students learn the information for the chosen standard.
- Students were then able to reflect on whether they made silly mistakes or if they really didn't get the concept of the questions.
